Brise
music: Kozi, Lyrics: Gackt C.
When the sky gently embraces the transparent skin of night* and dances
softly down to the ground
While the bustling wind forces itself through the cracks in our fingers, the two of us are playing
You gently extended the palm of your hand to me
And falling into the sky I gaze at my unmoving destination
Hada ga suki touri yoru
o yasashiku dakishimeru sora ga sotto mai-furite kuru koro
Kaze no zawameki wa yubi no sukima o surinuke nagara asonde iru
Kimi no tenohira o yasashiku sashi-dashite
Kono sora ni tobi-konda boku no ikisaki o matataki mo sezujitto miteru
If I stretch out my small body from the window of my empty white room
The two of us will dance as we move a little closer in the sky
Nani mo nai shiroi heya
no mado kara chiisana karada o nobashite
Kono sora ni sukoshi chikazuita kimi wa boku to futari de odotte iru
In the silent* night I will soothe you with this lullaby
So please don't cry anymore.
Shizukana* yoru ni wa boku
ga kono komoriuta de nagusamete ageru kara
Sonna ni nakanaide
The wind whispered
"This night the smell of the parched asphalt will be gone"
And as you are sent reeling upside down what should you do?...have you lost your way?
Kaze ga sasayaita
[asufaluto no yaketa nioi mo kono yoru ni wa naiyo] to
Totsuzen no mawari no dekigoto ni kimi wa dou shite ii ka?...tomadotte
iru?
You gently extended your palm to me and in my heart I fell into the sky
The silence in the streets and the light of the ages are for you
Kimi wa tenohira o yasashiku
sashi-dashite kono mune ni tobi-konda
Machi no shizukesa mo toshi no kazu no akari mo kimi no tame ni
I gaze at the scenery from the window of my empty white room
And breathe in the chilling wind of twillight
For the sake of this day I forever prayed for miracles
Nani mo nai shiroi heya
no mado kara touku no kishiki o nagamete
Yuugure ni sukoshi sumetai kaze o matoi
Kono hi no tame ni itsumo kiseki o inotte ita
If stretch out my small body from the window of my empty white room
The two of us will dance as we move a little closer in the sky
Nani mo nai shiroi heya
no mado kara chiisana karada o nobashite
Kono sora ni sukoshi chikazuita kimi wa boku to futari de odotte iru
The two of us will dance as we move a little closer in the sky
Kono sora ni sukoshi chikazuita
kimi wa boku to futari de odotte iru
In the silence of the night show me your beautiful face
Shizukana* yoru ni wa kimi
no suteki na kao o misete
* Brise means "breeze" in French. However,
it also means "break" as in "a shattering" according
to Worldlingo.
I dunno...I trust Melanie more so I'll go with the first one but...
* Maybe not exactly true. The skin is most likely
people skin, not night skin...but I like it better that way.
lit: "At the time when our skin becomes transparent and the sky that
gently embraces the night floats softly down."
Still nice but quite wordy.
* In concert Gackt substitutes "shizukana"
(silent, quiet) for "nemureru" (sleeping, dead).
It's just some extra information. He seems to like that word a lot.
The lyrics to this song really suprised
me. It is, I think, one of their most lyrical songs,
despite the fact that it's put to Kozi's typical Merveilles era ragtime-ish
pep music.
If he were a dog I think I would call him Spunkafooble Nutkins.
But the song is still simply beautiful.
It's as if the entire world is falling apart and crashing down,
all except for the room that the singer is in. The outsider's the only
one who can help him
and if they somehow reach each other they can rise above everything...
only I'm not sure whether either of them is alive or looney.
This is always how I imagined it would be if Manaland collided with Gackt's
world;
this crazy, empty, inorganic place where nothing made any sense but was
breathtakingly beautiful anyhow.
I don't know if anyone's noticed, but
you can sing one of the songs from Voyage to the music from Brise
without much of a problem. As for Gackt's comments on the song, go here
