I did a carful investigation, and finally bought the aluminum mat (the marble one was pretty heavy so I gave up on that one....)

He's difficult to please, so it takes him a while to grow accustomed to new things.

Well, in all honesty, if someone bought me something expecially for only me to sit on...

Umm....Tamura Masakazu is the actor of "papa wa newscaster", an old but popular show from the 1980's
that Hora mentioned in his diary last year as well (my memory's abnormally good). For more of an explaination of the show,
please see the "not so important anymore news" on the front page of this site.
However, this could also have something to do with the long-running detective program, Furuhata Ninzaburo, which ended this year.
The detective's character is played by Tamura Masakazu. He's aged rather well....

I like detectives. In fact, I came up with a new word to describe a particular type of detective work, "akechi-ing" (Kurotokage)

Aside from that, "descent" in this case could be a 2ch term that means "to visit a thread" more or less...
