Dada wa Tsurai 6 - in Paranoia Uber-Halloween Party
MGazette vol 22, April 98. pg 131-133
*Halloween! That's a German Metal....no,
it started with an international phonecall...[Yo, this is Mad George. You
gonna be in the Citta Halloween event?] He he he...an unfond memory of last
year when I got the place wrong and ended up wandering the streets alone
at night in home-made 2 meter wings and a thong. This year won't be like
that. Yes, my Halloweenhas long been on fire!!*
Dada: You were great today!
George: Nah, thanks. My voice is all tired
out now though (laughs)
Dada: And I got an award.
George: Yes, yes (laughs) Congratulations.
I didn't say a word and they gave it to you anyway, and that means it wasn't
favoritism - you won it fair and square.
- But your skin couldn't breath as Scorpioman
and it must have been hard, right? (laughs)
Dada: Right! I had pools of sweat in the feet; when I walked
they went along with me (wry smile)
George: *giggles*
Dada: Well that aside, it was great to have your live on
a stage as big as that one, with all those doohicky's <3
George: It was great~! That's the most
doohickys I've had up till now.
- It was fabulous! Everything came together
to create a single world, and it was fun as a live or a show. You really
are an entertainer~
George: I even took a shot at studing pantomiming
(laughs)
Dada: I thought it was impressive how you drew the black
cross on the male performer's chest, and then later that became part of
the magic's effaciency (said in earnest)
George: That's cause I really like symbols
(laughs)...or more like I want to twist them. To set out an unbounded idea
from a number of unrelated ideas, and then pursue the question of what it
and its common points are, just what the symbol is anyway...when you think
of a symbol that could somehow unite and relate those things that everyone
thought were completely separate, that's when you can make it into a theme.
- So you're saying it's not just self gratification,
but that it becomes something everyone can understand.
George: But it's basically self-gratification
(laughs). And the reason everyone got it's because I'm a simple guy (laughs)
I can't think very deep things.
Dada: So that's why the encore was Mikami Ken? (laughs)
George: Yes!! (laughs) That's seemingly
unrelated, but at the core you really understand (laughs) But if you just
hear the melody (with a different song), it's the same, right?
Dada: Amazing! So it was Mikami Ken and Rammstein!! (laughs)
George: Rammstein and Mikami Ken, that
common point (laughs)! It's awesome huh. But I think the greater part of
people didn't know either of them (laughs).
[In actuality, this time aside from George
and Dada, the majority of people heard the band Rammstein as "Mamushi
Stein"...]
- And how did you two meet?
George: I was introduced to him at the
Paranoia Cafe [cause he's interesting]
Dada: The second time I met him he didn't know who I was.
I didn't have any make-up on then (laughs)
George: Yeah (laughs) The first time I
met him he had his eyelashes about as big as they are now, and the next
time nothing at all. I was like [Huh?] (laughs).
Dada: There's something even better. Before it was like
[I saw someone cosplaying you today] [Eh? How was it] [It didn't really
look like you...]. And when I asked [Where?], it'd been me (laughs)*
George: ROFL!
- And what was your main impression of his character?
George: Well, I thought he was interesting
(laughs) Epecially how when it comes to Mikami Kan, or discussions about
different generations or new wave type of thing, we both completely understand
each other.
Dada: At first, he asked me, "How old are you really?"
(laughs)
George: Right (laughs) And I thought, "Ah,
he's a bit like me."
Dada: We are similar, aren't we? I even eat a lot.
George: A big eater? We're exactly alike
then (laughs) A lot and fast (laughs)
Dada: It's painful even now (deep laugh)
George: The difference is that you're thin
and I'm fat (laughs) Today everyone on the set was like, "Is that a
man or a woman?" They were really surprised (laughs)
Dada: I'm discovered soon enough though. Ah, that's right!
The common point is that I'm alllways wearing eyehadow (laughs)
George: I see (laughs) Can't miss it huh.
You know, this is just something I thought of, but if I Japanese person
dyes their hair and doesn't wear make-up it's weird. A, sorry! I guess it's
okay with girls (laughs)
[This time all the
female staff on MGazette had brown hair]
- Will you be coming back to Japan soon?
George: Well, I don't have any plan finalized
yet. This time I'll be going back to LA soon after I do a live in Osaka.
Dada: If you can, next time you come I'd like you too see
one of my lives (laughs)
George:I haven't even seen one yet. When
you talk about what you'll do next I'm always like, "Oh! Cool! I wanna
see I wanna see" but...(laughs) But really, if I decide I'll come to
Japan to some degree beforehand I'd like to do something together. After
that I'd like to be the opening act for Marilyn Manson, who I've always
done work with. I did it once before in San Diego.
Dada: Every time I see Manson's PVs your face flaots before
my eyes (laughs) Then I remember that you'd talked about it before (laughs)
George: Yeah. The MTV music awards were
aweful though. When Manson came out he wanted to be naked and boobed-up,
and have his OOOO hidden and his arse visible, and getting it all fastened
on was horrible (laughs) It was no good getting it on there (laughs)
- So that means you stuck it on yourself
then...?
George: Me and Laris (laughs) When I was
applying the cache-sexe for the photo shoot (kneeling, and had it positioned
just in place), from up above Marilyn did this and touched my head, and
started troking my hair softly ...I was like "Argh! Yuck!" Nothing
will ever compare to that (laughs)
- both (burst out laughing)
Dada: That's not the kind of face I was talking about though
(laughs)
George: Well, maybe next time I come to
Japan will be when I release my autobiography in February or March.
- Autobiography?!
George: I'm making one~ This is amazing;
it's [Osaka; NY; LA] (laughs) 400 pages, B5 paper, 36 color pages. It's
in Japanese and English, and I hope it'll tell people about my wanderings.
So it's got how I did the movies I was involved in, the things that didn't
work out somehow, and illustrations. Then there's how to do 3D visual arts,
flat 3D examples of anamorphosis that turns 3D when you view it with one
eye and how to draw it, discussion on performance.
- Are you going to show everything outright?
George: Well everyone does it like that,
and when given the step-by-step everyone's not going to make the same thing;
it all depends on what their personal expression is. When it comes to what
was really good in the world of specialty make-up, Dick Smith would teach
everything he knew to people, and when a noob who didn't know anything had
just started out, if they called him he would still kindly teach them what
to do. When I want to one of those open effects scenes it thought it was
really nice, and I think I want to continue along that vein.
Dada: That kind of network isn't available to self-appointed
Japanese artists. "It's over. It's hopeless!" - their unceremonious
promotion (laughs)
George: That is pretty unceremonious (laughs)
* the lyrics to "Tsuppari Visual Rock n Roll"
seem to have come from that encounter
I suppose we're lucky no one's
found him wandering the street and done anything creepy yet...something
similar happened to me once. I finally got a ride home from a Persian immigrant
who tried to get me to go out with him afterwards. Regrettably, I was not
thonged though >_<
and lol! Screaming
Mad George speaks Kansaiben - it was hard to understand him sometimes. He did the
Offspring's "Want you Bad" video.

(where did he go...?)
Mikami Kan
is a Japanese musician from the early 70's. And if you don't know who Rammstein
is just go listen to them or be forever uncool.
