Transient

song: Hora/ lyrics: Kaya

You gaze at your frosted breath
Aware the outlines of your scars have faded
Along with the wilted flower petals

Though your kisses may have been playful
They were drenched in the scent
of suggested sin

shiroi iki
karehateta hanabira to
iroaseta kizuato

tawamure no kuchizuke wa
tsumi no kaori ni afurete

If only you could have stopped his breath then
With freezing fingers lovingly entwined

kogoeta yubisaki
amaku karamasete
itoshii toiki o
koroseta nara

This is the scene woven
From your sad dreams
As your naïve vows
Are breaking and fluttering away

While you shiver as if you would disappear,
the snow now dances round your clasped hands

kanashii kibou de
oriageta joukei
osanai chikai ga
chigirete yuku

namaru you ni furuenagara
tsunaida yubi ni yuki ga mau

Fleeting happiness and then
Brought cruelly to your senses
You did nothing but
Simply cursed your ever-dry limbs

If I’m not allowed to even love
Then force me beneath the snow
with your own arms

hakanai shiawase
zankoku ni samete
nurerenai shitai o
tada norotta

ai suru koto suru yurusarenai no nara
anata no ude de yuki ni shizumete

I heard somewhere that Kaya wrote this from the general perspective, and that's why I translated it as "you" instead of "I"...
There are a lot of interpretations of this song, especially the line

[nurenai shitai o tada norotta]

The Japanese think it has to do with sex. But I learned not to pay much attention to them a long time ago when they said Dada was producing Riente-en-Soir and left dirty underwear all over his apartment (he's not producing anyone or performing anymore...as for the rest...eh, we all leave our underwear on the floor sometimes. Doesn't make it true)...but at any rate, if I do accept the song as being about a gay man lamenting how he's not a woman, then it's not particularly meaningful to me.

However, songs and poems can mean anything depending on what the people reading them want to see. I like the little mermaid a lot *laughs*, and so I prefer to think of the story as being more of a fairy tale. For me it's the tale of a princess who falls in love with the mermaid prince. However, he has to return to his own world, and leaves her up on land, unable to breath beneath the water, and certainly unable to join him as his true love. Her one wish is for him to come back just once and push her beneath the ocean of snow in her own cold, lonely world. That way, they can be together forever in her frozen dreams...

Not everyone can relate to a gay man. But I think everyone can relate to loving someone who, due to sex, race, age, status, distance, surroundings, etc, they know they can never have...

And I think perhaps the guy who does the Fruity Loops Toucan's voice does the blonde guy in the new Duel Monster's program O_o
