Kuroi Torikago*
music: Mana, Lyrics: Kanon Wakeshima
I can't defy my destiny
My head jarred in its confusion
I can't stand against heaven and time
Blindly obedient
Both of my hands
Are pressed together with their string
I open my eyes
That had been stiched shut
Kono unmei ni wa sakaraenai
Konmei suru nou ga kishimu
Ten to jikan ni wa temukaenai
moujuu suru

Tear down the walls you cannot see!
Even with mechanical thoughts
They'll eat into your dreams
A shadowed past, a frightening future
The reason you ruminate upon words
that bind you to the present,
To know those limitations
Is to be in a black birdcage
Menai kabe o kowashite!
kikai no shikou de mo
yume o mushibamu
kuroi kako kowai mirai
ima o shibaru kotoba o hansuu suru riyuu
genkai o shiru no wa
kuroi torikago
Even if the deceitful voices
Are silenced...
Believe in things you cannot see!
With trembling arms
I want to protect
Someone dear to me
In the place my thoughts find
When they move through the present
To see wishes and hopes
Even if it's through a small black world...
A blurred shade of magenta
Open your eyes...
Tsuku koe

Mienai mono o shinjite!
furueru ude demo

ima o susumu omoi no tadoritsuku basho

*black birdcage
Kanon's song explanation (from her HP):
It's like a single
bird caught in the middle of a black cage by its enemy, encircled on the top,
bottom, and in all directions. In the midst of fear and anxiety, while something
it can't see is pushing down on it, it still has something that it wants to
protect, someone it wants to protect, and the feelings of wanting to protect
them, and I wrote this about the undying emotion and strength of wanting to
protect that which you hold important no matter what. I haven't been able
to experience those kinds of emotions very easily, but that's exactly why
I wanted to clearly write the ideal.
This song reminds
me of lolita soooo much, the way of thinking and imagery, everything. Kinda
brings me back *lol*
(it also reminds me of Kaya's song, and Mimori Yusa's. Birdcages seem to mean
something different to everyone...)
According to
her picture diary, Ms. Wakeshima started recording this in December, but then
the studio was attacked
by an army of cat clones with violins and they had to spend Mana's lunch money
on cat nip to calm them and he was grumpy for the rest of...
actually, no. But if you can't read Japanese, for all you know that COULD
have been what happened.
In her Diary, she said that a voilinist came
in and recorded 4 different parts for this song and drew a rather lovely picture
of it.
