Kusatta Sakana*
by: Cali Gari (Caligari)

The morning sun shone on the floating water of the tank
I stared as the light transfixed my gaze
It shook on the surface and broke in shimmering waves
On you, in your stagnant resting place…
Maybe that me from long ago isn't here anymore, and so…
In seeing those things I don't feel doubt anymore; yet I know…
It hurt a little still, my right eye*

asahi ni ukabu suisou no naka
boku wa mitsumeteta
suimen ni yurete kira kira hikaru
teishi shita kimi o
tabun mou ano koro no boku wa inai kara
mitomeru koto ni gimon o kanjitari wa shinai kedo
sukoshi migi me ga itai

The silent child who didn't know those words
Instead of knowing them from one he broke
In the seeming insanity of first known true sadness
I saw something, some far off hazy smoke

sono kotoba o shiranakatta muguchi na kodomo wa
sono kotoba o shiru kawari ni hitotsu kowarete
hajimete shitta kuruisou na hontou no kanashimi de
tooi kemuri o mita

aa~

If I try to remember, I come up with the same meaning
As I looked into the still water, my own face smiled at me

omoi daseba sonna onaji muimi o narabe
nemurikaketa mizu ni utsuru boku no kao ga hohoenda

The morning sun shone on the floating water of the tank
I stared as the light transfixed my gaze
It shook on the surface and broke in shimmering waves
And I, with my fish, in that stagnant place…

asahi ni ukabu suisou no naka
boku wa mitsumeteta
suimen ni yurete kira kira hikaru
teishi shita kimi to

A sleepy town at sunfall
Amidst the empty space everyone was bustling around
Somehow I long to return to my birthtown from long ago
I chase after something hazy outside the window glass
With cheeks drenched in watery tears
The me that found me was only just
In that town alone

yuuyake no machi
minna akichi de sawandeta
ano koro no kokyou ni douka modoritai
mado no soto ni kasumu nani ka tsuinagara
hoho o nurasu
boku o mitsuketa boku ga tada
soko ni ita

On that cold morning, the icy air permiating the house
I picked up my rotted fish and brought it with me to the riverbed
Float far, far away from here!
I murmered to myself

samui kuuki ga shihai suru asa
boku wa kusatta sakana o tsurete kawa e
nagarete yuku yo
sara sara to

Now even my old memories
Can start floating away too…

boku no omoide mo
nagarete yuku

* Rotten Fish

* in Girlfiend Dada talked about "hidari me" (left eye). I think this is a reference to something too, or maybe just common Japanese knowlege that I haven't heard of yet.

Cali Gari has a lot of symbolism. Here the important ones are fish, water, boxes, and sunlight, and sleep. Water is very important to them.

Dada said something relevant about water once that I'll get around to telling you at some point
