1983
Indies Label Nagom Records established by "Extasy" vocalist
Kera
"Kinniku Shojotai" "Jinsei" (electronic groove)
1984
- Indies Label Trance Records established
Made representative by "YBO2" and the like. A sudden change
from the Nagom Label bands, this was a more dark, heavy music style.
Connected to the later Gothic fashion.

A kitsch american casual type brand founded by designer Kitamura Nobuhiko
- Vivienne Westwood Comes to Japan
The first collection in Tokyo with Morie. Afterward, a symbol of Avant-gaurd
fashion in Japan as well.
1985
- Start of the Hokoten Boom
Street lives on Omotesandou in Harajuku that replaced the Takenoko-zoku
in popularity.
1986
- Buck-Tick indies debut
Still popular among gothic lolita unto the present, they debued with
"To Search/Plastic Syndrome 2." Their sales on the indies
chart reach legendary-like proportions.
1987
- The establishment of Mandarake
This brought second-hand manga and retro nicknacks, as well as
cosplay and doujinshi, into popularity.
1988
- X Indies Debut
The sale of the now legendary "Vanishing Vision". After
that, it can be said that cosplay became part of the culture of the
X fans.
- Baby the Stars Shine Bright
The establishment of the highly famous brand. This accompanied
the visual kei boom, and with this did the history really start.
1989
- The audition program "Ikaten" was first broadcast
"Frying Kids", "Blankey Jet City", "Tama",
"Jitterin, Jin", "Begin" and the like.
The 1990's
1990
- The Opening of the Jane Marple shop
Jane Marple, who had been carrying out activity without a store,
opened her first branch in Laforett 2, Harajuku.
- The band boom
peaks.
From "Ikaten" and "Hokoten" there came "Unicorn",
"The Blue Hearts", "Princess Princess" and the
like.
- The Shibuya-kei boom.
.After the band boom, "Flipper's Guitar", "Pichika-to
Five", "Original Love", so called "Shibuya-style"
oshare bands became popular. Bandgirls turned to "Ori-bu Shoujo".
Border, Aniasu b are keywords.
1991
- Juilianna Tokyo Opens
At around the end of the bubble years the disco club, Julianna
Tokyo opened. Created a lot of images in society's eyes. Perhaps at
that time the visual kei fan's "kurofuku" and the disco
"kurofuku" both came from the trancegirls.
1992

- Judy and Mary debut with their CD "Power of Love"
The vocalist Yuki starts a lolita punk boom with her fashion.
The English duo "Shampoo" also leave their mark. Hysteric
Gramour and Milk are popular Harajuku brands.
1994
- Laforet Harajuku becomes extremely popular
2000-3000 people line up to wait the night before the bargan sale
at the beginning of the year. This suggests high popularity among
the costly Harajuku brands. Particularly Jane Marple and Batsu are
flooded with customers.
1995
- Vivienne Westwood Shop opens in Hibiya
The brand designer Vivienne Westwood has her grand opening. There
is a floor show and a talk show.
- The debut of the last Nagom Girl, Shinohara Tomoe~
Her eccentric fashion sense and wriggly way of moving, along with
her characteristic way of talking, gain popularity. Shinohara fangirls,
Shinora, appear in Harajuku. Her producer says she is "the ten
years later commoditization of the Nagom girl." Super lovers
and betty's blues boom.
1996
- Malice Mizer Debuts
Malice Mizer, a conceptually based band, releases their first
single, "Uruwashiki Kamen no Shoutaijou," and carry out
their activity under their unique concept of a middle century world
of aesthetic beauty.
- There is a visual boom on the late night show "Breakout."
Starting with Malice, there's Shazna, La'cryma Christi, Fanatic Crisis,
Sophia, etc. Around this time, gosuloli is born.
- Metamorphose brand established.
The classical, romantic brand is established by the designer, Kattou
Junko.
1997
- Urahara-kei "Individuality" Highbrands gain popularity
20471120, MILK, MILK BOY, Vivienne Westwood, Christopher Nemeth,
Taqueya Angel, highly individualistic street brands gain popularity.
1998
- Remake of the movie "Lolita"
The word "lolita fashion" came from the original 1961
Stanley Kubrick version.
1999

2000
- Realease of the movie "Battle Royal"
In responce to the extreme content of the kids killing their classmates,
the movie was labelled R15 and became a recognized societal problem.
The clothing used in the movie were Batsu brand. The store services
this, and fans start going to the movie in cosplay.
- The first H.Naoto collection
H.Naoto is born. As a result of the high design, the brand is warmly
received by musicians inside and outside of the country.
- Takemoto Novala debuts with his short novel "Mishin"
Nobara, who became a charisma among maidens for his work as an essayist,
releases his first short novel.
- The movie "Sleepy Hollow" is released
Directed by Tim Burton, he portrays a gothic western fairytale world
through beautiful images and costumes.
2001
- The first "2001 Tokyo Goth and Darkwave 01"
The commemoration of the first largest gothic event in the Kantou
region. Afterwards, they continue until the seventh, and last event,
at Shibuya DeSeO.
- The release of "Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone"
The book, a best seller world wide, creates a Harry Potter sensation.
There are large gatherings of girls and boys cosplaying as the characters
at private showings.
2002
- The disbandment of Malice Mizer
Malice, who had managed to struggle through the natural death
of their drummer, Kami, and their lead singer, Gackt, leaving, suddenly
put an end to their activities as a band. There is a rash of visual
band break-ups throughout the beginning of the 2000's.
2003

- Concept Bands increasingly popular
Band in the genre of "Kishidan" and "Psycho le
Cemu," conceptual bands, become popular. An influx of cosplayer
assemblies.
- Solo artists flourish
While visual bands continue to break up, solo artists gain in popularity.
Performers like "Daigo Stardust" and "Miyavi"
herald the second coming of soft visual.
- Ootsuki Kenji's "Rocking Horse Ballerina"
A somewhat silly, adorable adolescent novel about a punk and a lolita
girl who take a trip together.
- The public showing of "Kamikaze Girls," based on Takemoto
Nobara's novel
The clothing of the main character (Fukada Kyouko), who wears Baby
brand lolita clothing, attracts a lot of attention from the mass media.
Gothic lolita stops being associated with visual kei fans and gains
rank as a fashion style.
- The movie "Peep 'TV Show'" gets great reviews
A movie which used a gothic lolita character is introduced to international
movie festivals, receives high acclaim, and the term gosuloli is introduced
into magazines like the New Yorker. And because of this, the term
"Gothloli" is replaced by it's original Japanese pronounciation,
"Gosuloli" and becomes known throughout the world.
