Amaoto...I do love the rain. Yesterday I was watching Robin Hood on my old, worn out copy of the tape. It's actually third generation, since I wore out the first one, my brother threw out the second one when he was in his "throw everything in the trash can" stage, and I then wore out the new copy my grandma taped and sent to us because I refused to speak to my brother after he had thrown the second copy in the trash can. It really wasn't that much of a problem because he couldn't speak back then, but the tension between us still bothered my parents mildly. Which reminds me; I'm descended from nobility...I should rather like to write about that some time, but the only person with any knowlege of the castle and our history is that particular grandmother. I'll call her... But back to the topic at hand. I was reading a study on Tokyo Disney Land (TDL) and globalization, their use of "The Black Ship" imagery, etc...and basically, the arguement of the book was that Disney has not invaded Japan, but that Japan had simply appropriated and "Japanized" Disney. This is actually one of the key points in anthropology, that economic expansion and globalization are never a passive procedure for either party. And so I decided that the book, although correct, did not really need to have been written. Still, it got me thinking about my own experiences in Disney World, and I realized there were two things that really stuck out for me. The first was the Pooh ride, which sucks in Disney World, but is awesome in Japan. The next one is the Pirates of the Carribean. All in all the ride really isn't all that different, although at first I was wondering why the one in Japan smelled like Sui Yume. But it turns out that was just me. However, once I managed to get past the wonderment of that realization, my attention was drawn to something that was important.
